The company's activity began in the nineties by Haj Saber Aziz Ahmed, Chairman of the Board of Directors, in several commercial and agricultural fields, both in the field of local agricultural contracts and also importing fruits and vegetables to meet the needs of local markets for agricultural products.

Awra Company was established in 2011 with professional visions of fruitful and constructive cooperation with its valued customers towards achieving the desired goals and contributing to achieving food sufficiency and also opening a way to foreign markets to export surplus local products to global markets

History of Awra Company

Local Trading

The company annually contracts with local farmers in the Iraqi Kurdistan region to purchase potato crops from them and store it in the company’s warehouses, which accommodate about 5,000 tons of potatoes. The company also provides some of the local factories’ needs for industrial potatoes of both types (chips - fingers) in the Iraqi Kurdistan region, as well as some existing factories. In Iraqi governorates outside the region

The company annually imports about 100,000 tons of the finest bananas from Latin America and India. The company also imports about 10,000 tons of oranges, pomegranates, lemons and tangerines from several countries and of the finest types and varieties.

Recently, the company contracted to export consumer potatoes to Dubai in a quantity of 8,000 tons and also a quantity of 300 tons of onions. Ora Company also took the lead in exporting a quantity of industrial potatoes to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in a precedent that is the first of its kind during this contract. The contract was made to Exporting a quantity of 3,000 tons to major companies working in the field of processing potatoes in the GCC Countries, and there is a cooperation to produce and supply larger quantities in the coming years, God willing.

Awra Future Projects

The company plans to establish a huge project that will serve the potato production sector in the region and also to open new markets for local products in foreign markets, especially the GCC countries. The company intends to establish a station to receive, sort and store all agricultural products, as well as remanufacture and prepare some of these crops before marketing them in local and foreign markets. The target, God willing, is to reach the export of 50,000 tons of agricultural products.

Services and Activities

Import and Distribute

Import and trade of bananas, pomegranates, and oranges (importing banana shipments from the best global production areas, storing and preparing them for the local market as needed, and also importing, storing, preparing, and supplying pomegranates and oranges for the local market as needed).

Storage and trading of potatoes and onions.

The company contracts with local farmers, supplying them with seeds and fertilizers, purchasing the crops produced by them, storing them in the company's cold stores, and then offering them in the markets throughout the rest of the year.

Export Onions and Potatos

The company exports locally produced processed and consumable potatoes to Gulf markets, opens new markets, and also exports local onions to GCC market.

Storage of potatoes for third parties and the company

The company leases some of its cold stores to store surplus local potato crops for specific periods when there is excess supply beyond the needs of the local markets. Additionally, it stores potato seeds for local farmers until the beginning of the suitable planting season for each region.

Construct of refrigerated warehouses.

The company is planning to build a new large-scale project for refrigerated warehouses to serve potato farmers in the region, helping them store quantities exceeding market demand during the production season. Additionally, it aims to assist local factories in providing the necessary potatoes for local production throughout the year.
